Video: Patagonia in 8K

Anyone who has ever been to Patagonia will tell you that it is amongst the most stunning landscapes on the planet, and that there is no true way to appreciate it without going there yourself. The next best thing is to capture those landscapes in high resolution video, which is what the filmmaker behind this clip did. He spent six weeks traveling across Chile to shoot this clip in 8K resolutions, which sadly very few of us can actually playback. Still, Patagonia remains incredibly compelling, and as you'll see here, it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Video: Southern Skies in Timelapse

I've often said that the most amazing night skies that I have ever seen in all my travels were found in Chile's Atacama Desert. Due to a a series of unique variables (high altitude, no cloud cover, etc.) it is one of the best places on Earth to watch the heavens, which is why there are numerous observatories there. In this video, we get a not only a brilliant look at the billions of stars overhead, but also the La Silla Observatory itself. This will give you a taste of what it is like there, but honestly it has to be seen first hand to be completely appreciated. Still, this is an amazing video none the less.

Video: Watch a Chilean Volcano Erupt in Timelapse

We've seen some impressive timelapse videos in recent months, but it is tough to compete with this one. It was shot back in April when the Chilean volcano Calbuco erupted dramatically. That event is caught beautifully in this short two-and-a-half minute clip which gives us a humbling display of the Earth's power. If you have a 4k monitor at your disposal, the video is also available at that resolution. I can only imagine how impressive that must look.

Video: Planet Patagonia in 4K

It is often said that Patagonia – the wild region in southern Argentina and Chile – is one of the most spectacularly beautiful landscapes on the planet. It is difficult to argue with that sentiment after watching this clip, which features three-and-a-half minutes of stunning footage from this amazing place. Timelapse images of the Patagonian mountains, rivers, and glaciers show us an almost otherworldly destination that remains as alluring today, as it ever has in the past. Video: Mile for Mile - Trail Running to Support Conservation in Patagonia

We all know that Patagonia is one of the most spectacular landscapes on the planet. It is also one that is becoming increasingly threatened. That's why the team at Conservacion Patagonica have been working hard to create a national park in southern Chile to protect this wild and rugged place. The video below is entitled Mile for Mile, and follows three trail runners – Krissy Moehl, Jeff Browning, and Luke Nelson – as they embark on a 106 mile (170.5 km) run across what will eventually be that national park. Along the way they get to experience Patagonia in all of its glory, and it viewers get the opportunity to understand what makes the place so special.

As the park nears completion, there are still about 50 miles (80 km) of trail that needs to be built. To help with that effort, the gear company Patagonia is matching all funds donated to the cause through the end of the year. They also sponsored the creation of this short film, which considering the ties that the company has with the region is completely understandable. Find out more about the film, and the effort to create the trails in the park, at the official Mile for Mile campaign website.

Video: Precision Wingsuit Flight Over Chile

Take a daring flight with wingsuit pilot Sebastian Alvarez in this video as he blasts down a volcano near Santiago, Chile in his attempt to fly through a Chilean flag as he descends. Of course, this take some precision control, especially considering how fast he's moving on the way down. Crazy stuff to provide a bit of an adrenaline rush on a Friday afternoon.

Video: Force - Climbing in Patagonia with Mikey Schaefer

Patagonia is legendary for its opportunities for adventure. This is particularly true when it comes to climbing and mountaineering. This short film takes us to that iconic place with climber Mikey Schaefer, who gives us a real, honest look at what it is like there. This is an incredibly well done documentary that assembles clips from from more than a decade of climbing in southern Chile and Argentina. In the video Mikey takes us on some of his most harrowing adventures, and gives us a profile of an amazing place that he has come to love.

Thanks to the Adventure Journal for sharing this. Great stuff as always guys!

Video: South America by Drone

Adam Humphrey, the filmmaker behind this beautiful short film, spent five weeks backpacking through South America, covering more than 19,000 km (11,800 miles) in the process. Along the way, he shot some amazing video – with the help of a drone – in Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, and Peru. The results speak for themselves, as viewers are treated to fantastic shots of some of the most stunning landscapes on the continent, if not the world.

Video: Wondrous Timelapse From South America

Shot in Chile and Bolivia, this beautiful video captures timelapse footage from the amazing landscapes that can be found in those two countries. You'll see everything from sun-soaked deserts to rocky canyons to snowcapped peaks, with a lot in between. It is a wonderful short journey through a part of the world that I personally enjoy immensely. After watching this clip I think you'll understand why.

Video: The Winning Run at the Valparaiso Urban Mountain Bike Race

A few days back I shared a video of a pro-rider racing through the streets of Valparaiso, Chile as part of the urban downhill race that is held there each year. The course for the race includes some unexpected obstacles, including stairs, narrow streets, jumps, ramps, and a variety of other challenges. This video, which comes our way courtesy of EpicTV, is the winning run that posted by Filip Polc who had his GoPro camera on the entire way. Needless to say, it is a quite the clip, and not for the faint of heart.

Video: Timelapse From the Atacama Desert

This breathtaking video was shot in one of my favorite places on Earth, the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile. It features some of the most stunning landscapes you could ever hope to see, but better yet it also shows off the amazing night skies that can be seen over the Atacama. In all of my travels, I have never seen skies like the ones that are found there, and this short film will give you a taste of what they are like. Enjoy.

Video: Downhill Urban Mountain Bike Racing in Valparaiso, Chile

One of the more insane urban mountain bike races that takes part on an annual basis is held in Valparaiso, Chile where pro-riders race through the streets on a narrow course that includes stairs, ramps, banks, and other obstacles that have to be seen to be believed. The video below was shot on that wild course over the past weekend, and gives viewers a very intense view of what it is like to ride   this event. The narrow route looks difficult enough, but when you add in screaming fans just a few feet away, it gets even more intense. This is one mountain biking route I'm more than happy to watch on video and not try to ride myself. Crazy stuff!
